Sticker Shock

I just read this. And whoa....

$30-40K for a kitchen FACELIFT????

I would seriously like to know where these people got their numbers from! We redid our home when we bought in in 04. Completely gutted and we made it livable for about $30K. The whole house.

Granted, that was 3 years ago, but inflation hasn't gone up THAT much.

I do know that the kitchen was one of the most expensive items. We did remove a non-load-bearing wall, replaced some rotted drywall, completely replaced the floor, trim and subfloor, brought the electrical and plumbing up to code, put in all new cabinets, countertops, appliances, etc.

All this , for about $5K.

Now, I'll concede it isn't fancy. No granite. No italian hand painted tile. No custom sink. It's just a nice kitchen. Corian, vinyl floors, and all of it.

Then there is the $18K for a new bathroom????? Pfft. Try $2K . And that's with the permits for plumbing and electrical changes to put in a 2nd sink, shower and a Jacuzzi tub in what was once a 1/2 bath and to make the room bigger. We did go a little fancy here.

And the list of the cost discrepancies just goes on and on. It doesn't cost all THAT much to do a renovation.

What are they doing? Buying the fanciest of everything?????
