Don't Got Milk

I'm considering weening Sasha early and now may be a good time.
It's a problem really of supply and demand these days.
Thanks to some bizarre twist, for the week of and just prior to my monthly my milk supply drops drastically. I always knew some drop would be, but this is quite ridiculous.
I've gone from a 10oz. pumping (what he drinks in a sitting) to maybe 2-3 oz. Did the last 2 times as well. Nothing helps. Not drinking obscene amounts of water. Not taking fenugreek. Not pumping 15 min after every nurse and being sure to empty out every 2 hours. Not hotpads. Not massage.
I just am not making it.
And thanks to that, my backup supply has been used. I currently only have 12oz and my Mom will be out of milk today too.
He's still thirsty, but he's preferring his sippy cup to nursing. And to sleep, he wants to nuzzle in my neck rather than nurse. It's actually getting to be kind of a trial to get him to WANT to nurse. He wants down, or to beat on me, and he knows with his cup he can still go places and do things and drink.
So today I bought formula.
I really wanted to nurse at least a year, but like many things, it just doesn't seem to be working that way. I wanted natural childbirth, but it turns out I can only have cesearean births and so be it. And so I only can get about 8 1/2 months of nursing out. That's still pretty good and I've done what I can. I'm still pumping today at my regular times. Despite thinking it's a good time to switch over, I really want him to get as much breastmilk as is possible...even if it's just the little piddly bit I have left.

8.5 months is great! Way to go! It's got to be tough to keep up the supply when he's not really demanding.

I know some people supplement and nurse as long as they can, but even if you go full on to formula, don't beat yourself up. But you know all that. :-)

You're a great mom, whether you are able to keep nursing or not!

I supplemented toward the end of Boog's first year as well. I just couldn't get the same kind of quantity with the pump and I was sick of killing myself trying.

You do what you gotta do and you should feel great about 8.5 months!

Congrats for making it to 8.5 months! A little bit of weaning sure will solve that book problem. If he's not interested, he's not interested. You're right to take his cues. (Not that you didn't already know that, but sometimes it's nice to hear!)
