His Heart Grew 3 Sizes that Day

You'd never know it was so close to Christmas at our house...

Other than the stack of boxes of ordered gifts, the stack of home-made photo cards (you know, taking dogs into a busy Mall during the Holidays and then expecting to take decent photos with them and a toddler is probably the definition of mental illness), and the various parts of our Nativity set strewn about the house there's nothing.

No tree.

No lights.

No decorations (actually, there are. The skull, bat, and ghost gel clings are still on Sasha's bedroom windows).

But I'm kind of Grinchy about Christmas. Have been for years. I think it's probably a badge of adulthood. You lose the "magic" and begin to think of the chores, the duties, the expectations of you and the real message gets lost. There are stories of people being killed over toys at the store, stories of neighbors suing neighbors over decorations, and so many stories to reinforce the Grinch Spirit.

Thankfully, having a little one brings some of that magic back. The adoration of Christmas music, the look of wonder when he sees lights and decorations--even the most humble ones, the entire stable filled with Mary, Joseph, Jesus and several animals (and of course, an angel) hauled everywhere and hugged with affection...Its much nore fun this year and I do feel my Grinch side fading.

Hopefully we'll get our tree this weekend. I'm looking forward to it.

The little one really does change the holiday and brings back the magic. We took a walk the other day, and the Pumpkin thought the lights on another house were so pretty. Her reaction has motivated me, and I am insisting we put up our decorations this weekend.

Good luck with yours!

Woohoo! I fit the definition of mental illness! Cause, yeah, I totally hope to take the kid and dogs for photos. We've done it before, I'm sure we can do it again.

I concur. The little ones make it fun again especially now that they're old enough to REALLY take it in and understand it a little more.

Hope the tree hunting goes well!
