For Those About to Parent 3yos, We Salute You

The past couple of weeks have brought with them some changes in our son.
My thoughts are, if this is the Threeness, I’m not entirely certain we will survive.

His energy is just off the scale. This Saturday morning he was bouncing around like a ball of Flubber and leaving havoc and destruction in his wake. After the towel bar in the bathroom was ripped out of the drywall, I decided that we needed to get out of the house and go somewhere he couldn’t break anything and we, his parents, could relax again and begin to enjoy our weekend with him.

This is one of the reasons I do love our community. It’s an old, historic city and once the weather warms there are constant events and activities that are either free or extremely inexpensive to do that are family-friendly. Yes, it’s infamous in the area for being populated by white trash, rednecks, and Los Ilegales (and not the merengue band), but when you live there it’s actually pretty nice. We went simple this time…stopping by the Farmers Market, going for a picnic, some playground time, and then letting him race through fields and climb like a monkey all over some canons. We know we’ll also have parades, crafts classes, concerts, and outdoor movie nights to enjoy as well as the spring, summer, and fall wear on. Who knows, maybe he’d even like a battle reenactment. After all, we need options that allow for a lot of…well, lets face it. Crazy. And if the town isn’t hosting something? Our church is. Its possible they may save us and our sanity.

It worked this weekend and he was worn out, filthy, and happy. A quick shower and a tuck into bed sent him off to dreamland and we were able to rest in a quiet house and let spackle dry over the holes that were made in the walls that morning.

Three. May God have mercy on our souls.
