Yoda Appears

We've been in a bit of a linguistic milestone lately. Sasha's grammar has gone totally downhill.

While this may not sound much like a milestone, I've read that this happens in children and it marks the stage where they are no longer merely parroting words and phrases, but have gained a true understanding of the language and are trying to apply their own rules and structure. They now REALLY understand how to talk.

Sasha's rules, we've discovered, must be similar to Yoda's, because his already funny, Rich-the-copy-machine-boy cadence is now peppered with semi-backwards speak.

If the door knocks? We hear, "Hmmm, who that could be?"

And some oddities occure that aren't strictly Yod-ian like "Where my Taggie go be?"

But either way, he's actually figuring out how to structure language and the rules that go with that. Thats something.

We also know that he's understanding there are other ways of speaking, though he doesn't *quite* get the concept of what it means to be a different language.

When he makes up words, and I tell him I don't understand because what he just said isn't English, he just tells me, "No, Mommy. That's Spanish." Apparently I have failed in helping him on the road to bilingualness given that he doesn't comprehend that Spanish doesn't mean made up gibberish. But he does get that there are alternatives to English. Not really what I was going for.
