Side Effects Similar to Placebo

Sasha has become anti-sleep.

We get him in bed by 8:30 and have been following the typical nighttime routine. Nothing has changed. The evening runs much the same way it did in December, when he slept at night.
But now, he employs every tactic in his limited arsenal to avoid actual sleep.

He gets up and plays.
He gets up and wanders the house.
He gets up and fake potties.
He gets up and sneaks in to see what we’re doing.
He gets up and complains he is sick.

The last one got me the first few times, but when he started complaining his “fever hurt” and he was cool as could be, I caught on. He wanted “pink medicine” (antibiotics) and Tylenol. He’s weird, but he likes the flavor.

So now, to avoid that part of the evening insanity I have created placebos. I know it’s terrible parenting and I should just tell him he isn’t sick so no medicine. But it’s 11:30, I’m tired, and this nonsense has gone on long enough.

SO…

That he might shut it and go to bed we now have raspberry milk and cherry Kool-Aid in the fridge for nightly dosing. I’ll deal with the fake sick in the daylight.
